Our Mission Statement and Values

Delta Sigma Phi is a national, not-for-profit Fraternity that's helped young men become better for more than a century. Our great Fraternity helps and encourages our members to become better students, better leaders, better citizens, better professionals, and ultimately better men.

It is in this simple belief that we find the values of Delta Sigma Phi. Our official mission statement is simply: "Build Better Men"

The Delta Mu Chapter places this mission in the forefront of all its choices and actions, opting to focus on the qualities of men that can help pave the way for a better generation of fraternity man every semester.

These choices can be distilled into three equally crucial aspects that can be considered the cornerstones of Delta Sigma Phi's values: Courage, Action, and Excellence. By building men of these traits, we ensure our fraternity's survival as an institute of respectful and respectable gentlemen, especially on the campus of Loyola Marymount University.

Our History at Loyola Marymount University

Class of 1968

Delta Sigma Phi has deep roots in the history of Loyola Marymount University, dating back to the 1950s. One of the most notable differences between that previous generation and our current one would be the beach house, a fraternity house a mile off campus and directly on the beach.

Most of the older alumni experienced life in the beach house and speak of it highly. Unfortunately, as time went on, the house was eventually given up, but the letters of Delta Sigma Phi are still carved into the curb of the beach where the house once stood.

The chapter maintained a strong presence until the 1990s, where low membership numbers forced the chapter to retire from Loyola Marymount University and the chapter remained in hiatus for two decades.

In 2012, the National Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity successfully applied for renewed activity on campus and the Delta Mu chapter was reborn. In December of 2014, the Delta Mu chapter was re-chartered on the Queen Mary and has played an influential role in LMU Greek Life since.

The Delta Mu Chapter Today

The Delta Mu Chapter has had some of its most notable victories on campus only recently, rebuilding the fraternity's name and reputation for chivalrous gentlemen slowly but surely. In the Fall of 2015, Delta Sig won Lip Sync, a popular and competitive contest held among the fraternities and sororities of LMU, which not only provided a sum of prize money, but also helped grow our name in the Greek community.

The next significant step for the current Delta Mu chapter would be the introduction of our annual philanthropy event, Delta Dunk. One of the most prominent ways for Greek organizations on campus to build reputation is through their annual fundraising and philanthropic events, which are incredibly popular depending on how long the event has been in place. Delta Dunk represents a notable milestone achieved by the chapter, which looks to help build our name through this yearly tournament to help the Red Cross.

Ultimately, the chapter has made many steps toward building the fraternity's position on campus, but there is a lot of room to grow. That being said, each semester's class of gentlemen has improved on the last, providing our seniors some confidence as they leave the fraternity in the hands of the younger generations.
